Writing our stories helps us understand our lives and our connection to the world. This 2.5-hour workshop builds upon the theme within Roger Mooking: SoundBites: three life cycles – The Learning, The Living, and The Leaving. Led by Anne Bokma, it offers instruction, inspiration, journal prompts, writing exercises, and self-reflection.
New writers will find a kickstart to their life stories, while experienced writers will be inspired to delve deeper into memoir writing. Join us for a therapeutic and transformational experience that highlights the healing power of writing our personal narratives.
Suitable for teens and adults.
Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: I’m intrigued by this workshop but I’ve never written memoir before – is it suitable for me?
A: This workshop is designed for absolute beginners as well as more experienced memoirists. Our lives are made up of thousands and thousands of stories. As Richard Wagamese, author of Indian Horse, has written:
“All that we are is story. From the moment we are born to the time we continue on our spirit journey, we are involved in the creation of the story of our time here. It is what we arrive with. It is all we leave behind. We are not the things we accumulate. We are not the things we deem important. We are story. All of us.”
This workshop will help you uncover potential stories that could lead to larger memoir pieces.
Q: Will I be writing during the workshop?
A. Yes! In addition to offering instruction on the essential elements of memoir, this workshop will offer several exercises to help you mine story themes from your life as well as writing prompts to help generate ideas, spark creativity and provide energizing starting points.
Q: What do I need to bring?
A. Just a pen and paper or your laptop.
