Join us for a gathering hosted by Speakers of Truth and Sisters in Spirit in honour of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, Trans and Two-Spirit (MMIWGT2S).
From 5:00 – 6:00 pm Speakers of Truth will introduce the Moosehide Campaign in the Sculpture Garden. Rooted in Indigenous ceremony and traditional methods of learning and healing, the Moosehide Campaign is a beacon of cultural respect and support. Central to this initiative you are invited to participate in a community arts activity signifying your commitment to honouring, respecting, and safeguarding women, two-spirit individuals, and children in our communities. We will also stand as a voice against gender-based and domestic violence.
A sacred fire will be kindled to honour the memories of Helen (ban) Gillings, Kristin (ban) Shawana, and Renee (ban) Neganiwina. This fire serves not only as a tribute but also as a source of continued healing for all affected by these losses.
At 6:00 pm Sisters in Spirit invite you into the Shelley Niro: 500 Year Itch exhibition space as we welcome the families of the three MMIWGT2S in the City of Hamilton.
This gathering provides an opportunity for them to share stories about their loved ones and honour their memory. Your presence and support are deeply appreciated as we come together in solidarity and remembrance.
PUBLIC TOURS - Saturdays & Sundays at 1:00 pm (Regular Admission), Thursdays at 6:30 pm (FREE)
