“Now more than ever we need to talk to each other, to listen to each other and understand how we see the world, and cinema is the best medium for doing this.” – Martin Scorsese
By crossing boundaries and cultures, the art of film has the ability to make audiences laugh, cry, be educated and inspired. This is why the AGH has been screening thought-provoking Canadian and independent film to appreciative audiences since 1999. The ilovefilmseries, our monthly screening program, showcases film at its best with screenings of Canadian, International and art house feature film and documentaries.
Once a month, with afternoon and evening show times on Friday and Saturday, the ilovefimseries screens movies that audiences may not have the chance to see in a mainstream theatre, including Oscar-winning and nominated films. Housed in a 350-seat theatre inside the prestigious Lincoln Alexander Centre, just blocks from the AGH, the ilovefilmseries creates the perfect atmosphere for viewing with friends, on a date, or to enjoy on your own. This gives Hamiltonians the opportunity to take a break from the saturation of superhero movies and experience quality films in a comfortable environment without having to travel far.
“The film community in Hamilton continues to grow,” says Ryan Ferguson, Curator of the AGH Film Program. “We’ve watched Landmark succeed in building a thriving cinema downtown for mainstream film. We’ve seen the amazing grassroots campaign to save and revive the Westdale.”
“Hamilton now has more film festivals and film activity happening than ever before. I believe the AGH ilovefilmseries and the AGH World Film Festival can further root alternative and international cinema downtown, and contribute to building a city with an array of cinematic options.”
The ilovefilmseries is sponsored by the Incite Foundation for the Arts and tickets are $10 for AGH Member & Students, $12 for General. Click here for more information and to see what’s screening!
