Defining Movement Dance (Performers/Instructor): We are Hamilton’s only Hip-Hop & Street Dance focused dance studio, where students of all ages have the opportunity to learn about the foundations, the culture, and it’s history through in-person programs with encouraging, passionate and knowledgeable instructors. With programs in Breaking, Popping, Locking, Hip-Hop, All Styles & Freestyle, Parent & Tot Hip-Hop and Adult drop-in classes, we have something for any dancer interested in the culture. In addition to all of that, we also offer Private and Semi-Private lessons in Jazz-Funk, Salsa, Hustle, Contemporary, Latin and Ballroom. At DMD the emphasis is on growing in dance and not competition, but we do offer and see value in it. However, learning and enjoying the healthy lifestyle it promotes, the artistic expression it cultivates, the socialization and confidence that can come from it are the most important things to us. We believe every BODY Can Dance! We are built to move, and through dance people can grow in all aspects of their lives.
Good Body Feel (Instructor): at GOODBODYFEEL, we’re interested in building self-awareness, strength and community by creating accessible, inclusive and decolonized movement classes. GOODBODYFEEL dances at the intersection of mindful movement and social justice – self-care for community care. We set out to create experiences that remind people of their own agency and their worth. Through the use of considerate language, accessible sequencing and radical acceptance, we hope to inspire feelings of belonging and empowerment. Every one is welcome, no one is priced out and we are ACTIVELY creating reform in how “fitness” studios and for-profit-businesses can serve all communities. We have daily classes that are offered on a sliding scale. We create exclusive and safer spaces for marginalized folks. We eagerly collaborate on projects outside of what is typically found at movement studios. Move with us and let’s create waves together.
Hamilton Beat Harmonic (Performers): Hamilton Beat Harmonic specializes in infectious grooves from all around the world, with a focus on the samba reggae tradition from Salvador Bahia, Brazil. Hamilton Beat Harmonic emerged out of a community project started in 2015, originally named Hammer City Samba. Musical Director Sean Park returned to his hometown bringing some foundations in Afro Brazilian grooves and a bunch of instruments that he purchased from a group he performed with for many years – Samba Elegua in Toronto. Sean joined forces with Dave Gould and Edgardo Moreno to translate their collective knowledge of Afro Brazilian music into a repertoire that was accessible to anyone who wanted to learn. With a committed base, and the COVID-19 pandemic upending everyones lives, the group transformed into its current iteration after deciding to focus more deeply on learning and performing a range of Afro Brazilian rhythms, most especially samba reggae. Since some workshops in 2020 with Maestro Pato Irie Martinez of T.DotBatu, Hamilton Beat Harmonic has been learning the musical traditions of groups such as Olodum from northern Brazil. HBH is honoured to be part of the T.DotBatu family. Hamilton Beat Harmonic is committed to bringing high energy, eclectic performances to the streets and stages of Hamilton, Ontario. Our past work with the Hamilton Aerial Group, the Winter Solstice Celebration, the Barton St Festival, the Concession St Festival and more show our deep love for the city we all call home.
Hamilton School of Music (Performers): We are a progressive music school located in Hamilton, Ontario, serving the Hamilton, Stoney Creek, Ancaster, Dundas, Binbrook and surrounding communities. We have been in operation since 1995 and are currently under the direction of Brenda Kushnir.
Josh Taylor (Instructor): Josh Taylor is a dancer, choreographer, storyteller and an artist-educator. The 2020 recipient of the Hamilton Arts Award for Dance and Performing Arts and the 2023-24 Artist-in-Residence at Theatre Aquarius, Josh often explore themes in Hip-Hop culture, Pop culture, sociopolitical and social justice issues, aiming to entertain, educate and express. Through his work as Owner and Artistic Director of Defining Movement Dance, Hamilton’s only Hip-Hop & Street Dance focused studio, Josh passionately works to help movement artists of all ages find their voice, build their platform, and create meaningful opportunities in dance.
Paul Fralick (Performer): Paul Fralick (The LONE Rhubarbarian) performs a concert of songs recorded by his former band, TURKEY Rhubarb, and many other popular kids’ tunes. Music fun for the whole family.
